Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a natural compound found in cannabis and hemp plants that is non-intoxicating and non-addictive. CBD is a different compound than tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient that produces a “high.”

However, it is important to understand the different types of CBD products, as they are made up of different parts of the plant.

There are currently three main types of CBD- isolate, full spectrum, and broad spectrum.

Isolate CBD is “pure” CBD. This means that the formulation only contains CBD and does not include other components of the plant. Isolate CBD may be a great choice for you if you are just starting to explore CBD products.

Full spectrum CBD includes CBD and all of the other cannabis plant compounds, including trace amounts of THC. While this formulation can legally contain up to 0.3% of THC, it will not produce a psychoactive “high.” The benefits of full spectrum CBD is that it produces an “entourage effect,” or a greater positive effect of healing properties than found in CBD alone.

Finally, broad spectrum CBD has all the cannabis plant compounds that full spectrum does except for THC and likely still produces the entourage effect.
